A Series in Psalm 23 – God our Provider | October 24, 2021 | Chad Friestad
In this three part series, we’ll be taking a look at the most popular psalm of all time – Psalm 23. Have you ever wondered what makes Psalm 23 so famous? It’s mostly because of the incredible themes we’ll see in our study – God as our provider, protector, and pursuer. But another reason it’s so popular is because of the powerful imagery.
We see helpless sheep being led and cared for by a constantly loving and caring shepherd. It’s a picture of our own helplessness – we’re helpless sheep in a world of confusion and danger, aren’t we? David’s words in Psalm 23 strengthen our trust in our God who leads, provides, and protects.
Psalm 23 ESV
The Lord Is My Shepherd
A Psalm of David.
23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
3 He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
