Characteristics of a Healthy Church – Godly Leaders | September 19, 2021 | Pastor Chad
Have you ever wondered what makes up a healthy church? A healthy church community doesn’t happen by chance. It happens as a result of God’s transforming work and the hard work of believers who stand upon the truth of God’s Word. We read in Titus 1 that the most important job of a church leader is to “hold firm to the trustworthy word” (Titus 1:9). In a world full of confusion and empty pursuits, we’re incredibly blessed to hold onto a message that is guaranteed by the “God who never lies” (Titus 1:2). Yet, we must not take that message of truth for granted. That’s why God instructs churches to appoint godly leaders, teach sound doctrine, and teach believers how to live a life transformed by the gospel.
In Titus 1:5-9, we’ll take a look at the first characteristic of a healthy church: godly leaders.

Qualifications for Elders
5 This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you— 6 if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. 7 For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, 8 but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. 9 He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.
