“God’s Heart For Children” – Matthew 18:1-6 & Matthew 19:13-15 | January 31, 2022 | Pastor Chad Friestad
Finishing our series, “Loving Like Jesus, we’ll be looking at part 3: “Children.” We’ll take a look into the heart of God toward children. If we take a step back and allow God to search our human hearts and minds, we’ll recognize we often have a selfish view of children. Our society and culture tends to view children as a means to our own fulfillment, useless until they can contribute back to society, and an interruption to our plans. God has an entirely different view. We’ll look at God’s truth about children and how Jesus displayed the value and significance of children in Matthew 18:1-6 and Matthew 19:13-15.
Matthew 18:1-6 ESV
Who Is the Greatest?
18 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them 3 and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5 “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, 6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.
Matthew 19:13-15 ESV
Let the Children Come to Me
13 Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, 14 but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” 15 And he laid his hands on them and went away.
